Saturday 21 November 1998. 10:00 AM Daddy wakes with a Thumping Headache - AJ is in Control.. Hey I'm not kidding! I woke up this morning with a thumping ache on my head. AJ had worked his way around to careful line up his feet at the top of my head and commenced THUMPING! Now is this Parent Abuse or what??? After a rumble in bed and twisting him around so he pointed at Mummy, he decided this wasn't good enough and rolled on all fours, looked left and right and decided his target. ME! It was a grab for the hair with one hand and a kick with his foot against Mummy, whilst contorting my face with the other hand. I had no choice. It was him or me. I grabbed both hands with my far bigger hand and rolled him on his side and looked deep into his eyes. He looked back. There was a moment of pause and anxiety. Then it came - unexpectedly. AJ flicked his foot and got me in the chin. Taken by surprise I lunged back, trying to regain my claim to superiority, but it was too late, with a twist of his legs and a lunge of his hands he was on all fours and clamouring over to me. I screamed for help and Mummy came to the rescue, only to find the AJ spinning around and launching at the first full breast he saw. It was awful. Mummy rolled back and AJ fell to her side, firmly attached and blissful. I retreated to my side of the bed and closed my eyes - saved again, waiting to be challenged again the next day. After AJ had finished refuelling, he decided it was time to crawl around. Firs t it was across the centre of the bed, then back, then a twist on his back, wiggled for a few moments like a cockroach upside down, then a twist again and up to the pillows, hey this was good, he decided that that pillows gave him additional height so climbed the first and then the second and found the Bed Head. Now this was a great thing for AJ. He then decided that Bed Heads were for climbing and reached up first with one hand then the next and PULLED HARD whilst digging his feet firmly into my shoulder and raising to his feet. Next it was time to slobber as much as possible over the Bed Head and anything that came in contact with him or it. First the bed head, then the hands, this caused a highly frictionless surface to be created so it was a fairly rapid decent to the bed and both hands landed squarely on my face, slobber and all. (I tell you, this drool should be bottled, it's almost better than oil!) After realising he'd awoken me again and had y attention it was time to ensure that his mark was left. Big drool covered mouth and chin descended onto my forehead. It was too late for me to grab a tissue. I was slimed! In the excitement of his success AJ started laughing and reaching for more places to spread the drool. I was quick this time, raising him far into the sky looking deep into his eyes. He laughed a powerful and controlling laugh and then decided it was time to play with Daddy rather than taught. So we played Noses and tickles and Grunt and Boo. Then it was time again for a refuel. Now how would you like to be woken like that each morning - at 7 AM?
