Find a Publisher - Stranger Danger ...

Friday 20 November 1998.  2:00 PM

Find a Publisher - Stranger Danger ...

I was ringing around looking for a publisher today.  Suzi and I have decided to publish the story in Book format as well as a movie and web site.  I have a feeling the word "Trilogy" comes into play here.

Anyway after ringing around a few publishers and seemingly not getting anything that sounded close to even heading anywhere, I changed my approach.  Forget the big boys.  Go for the Home Brewers.  Well maybe not quite like that but I did call one in particular:

Angela Publishing        1800 687 699

Seemed innocent enough, had a home brew feeling, ring ring.

She answered the phone with her name then realised and corrected to Angela Publishing.  I laughed and introduced myself and asked if she'd set up a home publishing business after getting nowhere fast with the larger publishers.  Funny she should agree.  I asked if she could help with our needs.  She seemed not too interested.  After explaining a bit of our story, and that we wanted a book published and were doing a movie and the web site already existed, she was even more reluctant but listened on.  I then explained that I'd had as much luck as she had by the sounds of things and I really needed some help from someone who has gone it alone. She seemed more interested.  Hey it had to do with Parents and Children.

I then asked what books she'd published.  She explained that she'd produce four books on Stranger Danger.  Now without going into the material she faxed me, there are two aimed at younger children and two aimed at teens.  Distribution seems to be her biggest problem, even though there was great success from the use of the books in relation to abused and hassled children.

That was it.  I didn't need to hear much more.  STRANGER DANGER?  You have to be kidding.  Was this a coincidence or what?  I explained more about our story - the part about not showing us ID and such.  She laughed.  She now understood.

I said we had to work together and asked if she had a web site.   Nope, she didn't even have a computer.  I said I was fully committed to Parenting and related issues and asked if she wanted a web site.  She tried to wiggle around saying she didn't have a computer.  I said that's not an answer - yes or no - do you want a web site.  She said she'd love one but had no idea where to start.   I said that's where I come in.

We made a deal.  She'd fax me some preliminary info today and get the four books in the post for me.  I'll build her a web site and develop a way people can order the books.  She would help us publish our story!

Now that's what I call community services :)

So over the weekend, Todd Corporation will be sponsoring the Stranger Danger web site, domain name and putting it all online!  Watch for the new link on the Navigation bar to become active and please seriously consider purchasing these book.   Angela is a mother of four with a six month old bubs who was giggling and making baby noises in the background.  There are some great references to the use of her books saving children's lives and helping children come to terms with Stranger and Friendly Danger.  If you want, call her.  Or wait till the web site comes online.  The books are only $12 each.

So there you go.
