| Saturday 10 October 1998. 4:45 PM Actually I'm not
sure what time it was - I just know it was after we returned from looking at new Front
Doors.
I was in the kitchen making lunch for my wife, AJ and Brother-In Law, we'd just been
out checking on new Front doors. (Hello to all the Staff at Mitre 10 Narellan who
now know who we are! You are a great team!)
Anyway the phone was ringing. It was the office number and I was tempted not to
answer it, but decided I'd better.
I was greeted by a woman's voice. Shaken and uncertain. She asked for me.
I asked who it was, she gave me a name and I asked where she was from. Well I
realised pretty quickly what the call was about and immediately sat down. I guess
Suzi and Bro-in-law would have to fend for themselves.
We talked for a while, going back and forth over the events.
DoCS did it again. They started acting according to policy but now have twisted
the story into a nightmare for the family. Lets just say right now the older
Daughter in in Protective custody, whilst the younger daughter is now home and the Brother
was by order of the JIT (Join Investigation Team) orders to be moved out.
Does this sound ridiculous or what? HAVE YOUR SAY
Yes, the story is complex and at this time I'm not in a position to discuss much more -
at the mothers request to privacy of course. And I respect that.
She has faxed a document to me which is an agreement with the JIT and boy - does it
open ones eyes. It has now raised many questions.
Yet again DoCS and the NSW Police have really overstepped common sense authority.
I'll be working very close with the family on this one. Lets put it simply - it's
my rehabilitation from my own traumatic event.
I will NOT let families be torn apart in Australia because
someone with half a pea sized I.Q. thinks they are doing the right thing. I'm
sorry but the NSW Police and DoCS are gaining NO RESPECT from families whilst they keep
shooting from the hip in a random direction. HAVE

Lets start with COMMUNICATION.
If necessary NEGOTIATION.
These seems to be words and skills missing from both the NSW Police and DoCS.
Yes, I'm sure there are instances where these thing don't apply. But I'm counting
more instances where they do that aren't reported over those that are. HAVE YOUR SAY
But to just jump in without checking the depth of the water is become more of a concern
than anything else. When will these people WAKE UP. Whilst they claim they are
just protecting children they are literally tearing new families to pieces by being nosy
and unhelpful. Inflicting Trauma on a Mother does NOT help family relations. HAVE YOUR SAY
Lets start with something an old Maths Teacher taught me:
STOP ... LISTEN .... THINK .... SPEAK
DoCS see to SPEAK then THINK then LISTEN then STOP. Its just NO GOOD.
