| Wednesday 30 September 1998 - Until Midday. We're in hiding
for the first part of today.
I decided last night that Suzi needed a sleep in and really we need a little Family
time.
This whole thing has put a lot of strain on all of us, yet it doesn't easily show.
I have to be grateful about one thing. We don't believe in giving up and this
whole thing is far to serious to walk away from.
It's not about AJ and his Mums Feeding Routine any more. Some people have made it
personal. Some have ignored the facts (like Carmel Niland and the NSW Police and
Faye Lo Po.) Until such time as they acknowledge their mistakes we'll
continue to find parents who need support.
Niland made the comment on Today Tonight that "We're Damned if we do and we're
damned if we don't."
This is a s really silly thing to say. If the staff were adequately trained and
understood the policies. There would be no DAMNEDing to be done. And admission
of error and accountability is so critical.
These people have the huge power that can literally tear families apart and cause
irreversible emotional and physical damage. People have been known to SUICIDE over
less than what we are going through. And you expect the Government Department that
is suppose to HELP families is going to do a good job if they can't communicate. I
don't think so.
As to the Police. Well the video Speaks for itself. If Police act with such
manner without first trying to reduce conflict then it's no wonder the Police are always
in the wrong. They need to desperately get their act together.
I expected the Police to arrive and ask to talk with me to solve the problem. I
did NOT in my wildest dreams expect he would threaten to break my door down without first
talking.
I though we lived in a Civilised, Non Gestate, Democratic, Rights Driven society.
I am clearly wrong with my understanding on what being Australian is all about.
Being Australian is about living in fear that some totally inexperienced person wanting
brownie points and a promotion will enter your house and steal your child using Police
Intimidation (which totally failed and will always in future fail with me.)
Is this the 1990s? Am I truly in Australia? Some people have commented that
we must feel like we are in Germany during World War II and suspicious of being Jewish.
I have some tiny inkling of how those millions of Jewish Families felt now, being
torn apart. (The rest of the Holocaust is another story.)
I've given the Government 7 full days to get their act together. I'm not giving
them seven years. I'm not giving them my family. I will NOT allow them to walk
away.
There is accountability and responsibility needed and it will come. When 99.9% of
Australia is right behind you, whether because:
- they are shocked by the tactics or
- because they see a face they have met or
- because they know the name from e-mail messages or
- worst still, it happened to them
the injustice and fact that we have been treated like criminals, child abusers and
druggies is just not acceptable.
My first set of demands will be posted today (Wednesday) at 1 PM. But in brief:
PLEASE EXPLAIN
- From the NSW Police
- From the Department of Community Services
- From the Minister - Faye Lo Po
We have questions that won't let us put this behind us and allow us to go forward in
our lives. These quesiotns are only there because someone who never met us, never talked
to us, never introduced themselves, never tried to communicate, never researched, decided
they knew best and were very very very wrong.
And she still doesn't understand breast Feeding and Child Development. And
clearly nor do the rest of the women in the Department.
