I must thank Cathy from Melbourne for finding these two policies.

Like any sensible person I also have concerns about parents who don't look after their children and do cause harm.  Some parents ask for help and that's very commendable.   Others just beat the kids and hope no one will notice.  That's horrifying - probably more so than our own story.

But there are limits to how much power can and should be given to a person and how it is used by that person.  Clearly DOCS in this situation did the wrong thing.   They didn't RESEARCH and they made assumptions.

They Assumed:

• Suzanne and I were not married
• We had previous incidents with DOCS
• We were Unemployed
• We might toss needles into our front yard
• Suzanne was deeply depressed
• Assumed (without medical qualifications) AJ was of ill health.

Assumptions that lead to a very bad case of hostility from the Police and DOCS and a very destructive attack on my family and our values.  Values that are quite highly held by millions of people world wide - least of all the World Health Organisation.

With any power or authority there are people who will abuse them.  That's often why people take on jobs with Authority, because it makes them feel good and above all others.  This is just not acceptable.
