Whilst Suzi and I were visiting a client last night for dinner - they tried to take our mind of things - we logged onto our servers. No we didn't. The Web Server was seemingly down. I logged onto my private Unix server and found there had been a total power fail. On at 4:24 PM and again at 4:33 PM. Now it was really weird because any time the power has ever failed all the servers have come up. Why on this one instance did the Web Server not arise? When we arrived home we found heaps of Disk Errors. I did the usual corrective surgery and then discovered the web server configuration file had been written over by another config file. Weird. Then I started checking Virtual Web Servers. Only the commercial ones worked. All our private servers came up with directories. Didn't take long to fix. Then I discovered the worst. Much of the DOCS related AJ pages were gone. Converted to some kind of binary. It didn't make sense. I was lucky to find a few pages in Suzi's Netscape Cache and a few in my IE cache. (BTW IE is not very friendly with caching sensible data. I'll be using Netscape in future - and it's faster!) But not all the pages were in the caches. I also scanned our 4 gig proxy server for any of the page key words. I found a few more. I'm now only missing a few pages. Kristin was the first to see my plea for Cache Hunters and tried very hard, but weirdly the pages for the AJ site were not to be found. Kathryn e-mailed a few minutes later and scanned her directories but strangely enough - no pages. I guess that's just bad luck. I'm still at a loss to explain why the global logs, the AJ site logs and the AJ pages were the only ones affected. Even the backups are corrupted. So much for auto mirroring locally. Well this time, several people have asked for the site in a Zip file - so it's on it's way! Just like the Video Tape, it seems the Web Site isn't safe either. Thanks Kristin and Kath, your help and company in the early hours of my morning are appreciated. It's now time I went to bed and cuddled Suzi and AJ. Thanks.
