Subject: UPDATE: DOCs took my baby away.
Thank you to all those people who have written messages of support; if ever
I needed to feel that people are behind us it is now.
The update is that the media are now heavily involved in this case. The
fact that we have video of the whole event has really turned things around.
Apparently, DOCs is notorious for seizing children with no good reason and
not following protocol, particularly in the Outer regions of Sydney. We
were told today by a family law solicitor that the parents are often
inarticulate and of low socio-economic background so that DOCs and the
police can deny doing the wrong thing. We have evidence of this.
The police were asked by the TV stations to comment on the incident because
we had made a complaint. The police did not know about the video tape. They
told the reporters in a written statement that my husband was abusive and
violent, that I was abusive and violent, that they did the right thing and
were very polite. After the TV stations received this statement they aired
the vidoe tape which showed the police being abusive and violent, denying
us our rights and showed quite clearly how polite and restrained my husband
was.
Hmmmmmm.....
DOCs refuse to back down. They are now saying that their concern is that "
the mother's milk is not sufficient for the baby". Man, am I getting tired
of the "it's not strong enough because the mother is stressed" or "she's
not producing enough" cop-outs. They make it sound as if the breasts load
up after a few hours and that is that and if the baby wants a lot, tough.
They do not understand letdown obviously. It was my understanding and
certainly my experience that the breasts keep producing milk as long as the
baby is on. Well, I wouldn't expect formula-feeding mothers to understand
the process and believe me I do not think these DOCs women are the
breastfeeding kind!!!!
Anyway, to tie things up this whole situation is rapidly turning into a
breast-feeding issue; do I have the right to breast-feed my child as I see
fit!!! I feel the media would like to crucify DOCs over this.
